"WATER COLORS. Three miniatures, by Francis Barbour, Gorham. all three, works of singular merit. The first, a female, copied from Malbourne; the second, a male head, of great excellence, in which the artist has profited largely by the breadth and style of Malbourne; the third, a lovely creature, the image of a poet's worship. We had seen but two of this gentleman's minia- tures; both quite remarkable for a deep inward sense of female beauty, and for strong and exquisite touches of truth and tenderness in the painter; but we are now anxious to see more, The improvement even upon those being quite astonishing here."
