Appears in exhibition catalog as entry no. 32
No. 32. Fishermen's Hut: original. Water very fair--not so altogether of a piece with the atmosphere, as to make it no easy matter to say which is which, a fault getting quite too common with modern landscape-painters; shadows and rocks--air and water, being treated all alike by the ignorant and presumptuous. Take this picture altogether as a bit of composition, it is worthy of high praise; and the workmanship, and general treatment are very good. [P. 39; part of a group of thirty works by Codman. See entry 02440015 for related commentary.]
