Thorwalsden's celebrated Basso-Relievos, photographed one third size, and elegantly mounted. These exquisite conceptions of the great Danish sculptor are world-wide in their celebrity. "Night" is represented by the messenger-angel bearing away a child to sleep. An owl, as typical of darkness, floats in the ether. "Morning" is the angel bearing the child, in whose hand is the torch of day, and joy upon its features. [P. 254; see entries 02420247 and 02420248 for other works noted in this commentary.]
