This great picture by Lessing, is the companion piece to the "Martyrdom of Huss," now in the Dusseldorf Gallery. The original of the "trial" is in Frankfort, Germany; and the ASSOCIATION had this copy executed by a celebrated Dusseldorf artist expressly for this year's catalogue. It is taken at the moment when Huss was defending himself before the Council of Constance. [P. 60.]
Catalogue of Premiums. The following large and valuable Collection of Paintings, Statuary, Bronzes, &c., comprises the premiums to be awarded to the subscribers of the Cosmopolitan Art Association whose subscriptions are received previous to the 28th of January, 1858, at which time the Annual Award will be made.
