Born at Amsterdam, 1810; died 1860. Pieneman was painter to the Court of Holland, and this beautiful specimen of his art represents the poets Vondel Cats and Marie Tesselschade at Muyden Castle, where they were frequently invited by its proprietor, who was a great lover of poetry and art. The picture represents Marie Tesselschade singing to the celebrated personages of that day, who are gathered around her. [P. 34.]
