Born in Amsterdam, 1810; died at Utrecht, 1865. As a marine painter, Meyer ranks with the best artists in Europe. He is celebrated for his truthfulness to nature, and the cool but very harmonious colors which pervade all his pictures. [Pp. 22-23.]
