Van der Helst is everywhere recognized as one of the ablest masters of the old Dutch School. Sir Joshua Reynolds declared that he had never had an equal in portraiture. The remarkable flesh tints, solidity, and wonderful transparency of color, will not fail to command the admiration of all lovers of art. [P. 11.]
