[Entry was recorded in the catalogue by a contemporary hand. The same hand has also noted: "Presented by Hon. Chas. H. Upton, U.S. Consul at Geneva, Switzerland. I bought the portrait at an Antiquary's in this City (Geneva) & am inclined to think that the artist was contemporary of Calvin. At any rate it is very old & is exactly like one which hangs in the Public Library here with Luther, Melancthon, etc. Extract from a Letter of Mr. Upton, Sept. 23, 1872."]
