[A note by a contemporary hand reads: "The hole in canvass of Mrs. Knox's portrait [was] made, according to tradition of the family by a British bayonet or ball in Boston before being removed to Worcester. Hon S.C. Fessenden." The hand is identified by a note from another contemporary hand: "The above is from Prof. Packard--in his own handwriting. J.R.S."]
