An American Historian, born in Pennsylvania in 1749; was educated at Princeton College, and commenced the study of Medicine. After a short practice in Maryland he removed to Charleston, South Carolina, in 1773. He was for some time surgeon in the Revolutionary Army. In 1782 he was elected to Congress, and died in 1815.
