Was born in New Providence, Pennsylvania, November 17th, 1753, and was educated in Germany. Upon his return to the United States, he was ordained an Assistant Pastor of the Lutheran Church in Philadelphia. in 1780 he assumed the pastoral care of a Lutheran church in Lancaster, where he continued until his death, May 23, 1815. He was eminent for his knowledge of botany. His father was a native of Germany, and emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1742. [P. 17.]
