A celebrated astronomer and mathematician, born in Pennsylvania in 1732. He was for some time president of the Philosophical Society, Treasurer of Pennsylvania from 1777 to 1789 and again from 1792 to 1795, and director of the Mint. He died in 1796. [P. 16.]
