A celebrated explorer, was born in Virginia, in 1774. In 1803, he was sent by President Jefferson, on an exploring expedition to north-western part of the American continent, and was subsequently apointed Governor of Louisiana Territory. He put an end to his own life in 1809. [P. 10.]
