Exhibition Catalogs
Date:
1876
Notes:
Appears in exhibition catalog as entry no. 5 (Sale info: For Sale).
The work of this favorite painter, who has made a speciality of painting subjects from Pompeiian suggestions, are well known to American connoisseurs. In the dark-eyed type of character here represented by him, there is a certain courtly refinement that tells of the strange, luxurious magnificence of the Pompeiian period. Something half-barbaric gleams out in the Profusion of gems with which the lady is decked, all of which are picked out with wonderful deftness of manipulation. [P. 4.]
