This fine picture was painted by G.L. Brown, who has lived 20 years amidst the ruins of the "lone mother of dead Empires," Mother City of the world. It was painted from a study made on the spot, with his usual strength, lucidity and breadth. The Queen of England possesses one of his masterpieces, "The Bay of New York," which is now at Windsor.
