The General is represented seated upon a fallen tree in the Wilderness, penning his memorable dispatch to President Lincoln: "I SHALL FIGHT OUT UPON THIS LINE, IF IT TAKES ALL THE SUMMER." In conversation with the artist, the General said: "I never buttoned my coat, for I could not, since I carried my adjutant's office in the side pocket." [P. 12.]
