Prize No. 3. CROSPEY'S Great Work, entitled "An American Autumn." Valued at Twenty Thousand Dollars. A Glorious Autumnal Landscape, about 8 by 14 feet in size, and the original from which the Chromo Engraving, printed in colors, exclusively for the Association, was taken. This fine work is on Exhibition at the Gallery of the Association in New York. This grand painting represents the wondrous tinted and gorgeous American autumn. The trees are burnished gold and crimson, while the shadows of the distance, with their cool grey, relieve the warm and gay light which scattered over it by the mid-day sun. Through the middle distance sweeps the long track of the railroad, spanning the stream in the center of the picture, and blending the finite toil and ingenuity of man, with the infinite luxuriance of creation. [Pp. 5-6.]
