Prize No. 2. BIERSTADT'S Great Painting, entitled "The Yo Semite Valley." Valued at Twenty Thousand Dollars. A Magnificent Landscape, about 8 by 11 feet in size. Now on Exhibition at the Crosby Art Gallery. The name of Bierstadt stands so high amongst those of our landscape painters that it would almost seem unnecessary to call attention to the manifold beauties of this great picture. It may, however, be permitted Mr. Crosby to state, that it was after seeing many of the finest American landscapes, and long consultations with the leading most thoughtful critics upon art, in this country, that he ultimately decided upon the selection of this grand work as his first artistic premium. If he at first may have doubted the wisdom of his selection, he is happy to say that the universal encomiums awarded it, wherever it has been exhibited, have completely justified him. [P. 5.]
