One of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. His father was a farmer at Newtown, Mass., where Roger Sherman was born on the 19th of April, 1721. He was twice married, and was the father of fifteen children. He was a member of Congress from 1774 till 1782; and in 1791 he was elected to the Senate of the United States. He died on the 23d of July, 1793, in his seventy-third year. [Pp. 23-23.]
