One of the signers of the Declaration of Independence; born in Philadelphia in 1738; a lawyer of distinction and for many years Judge of the Admiralty Court of the United States for Pennsylvania; (he was father of the late Judge Joseph Hopkinson, a very eminent lawyer, politician, and writer;) died suddenly May 9, 1791.
