The celebrated Naturalist of Pennsylvania, was born near Philadelphia; prosecuted [sic] his Botanical researches into Florida in company with his father John Bartram, the first founder of the Kingsess Botanic Garden, traversed in the same pursuit a great part of the country of the Creeks, Cherokees and other southern Indian nations where he made many discoveries; and on his return published a History of his Travels. This venerable and amiable old man has the sole management of the nursery founded by his father, although he is now upwards of 70 years of age. [P. 45.]
