Was born in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, was graduated A.B. at Princeton College, New Jersey, in the 17th year of his age. Studied medicine under Dr. Bond in Philadelphia, and was the fifth person who received his degree in this university. Practised medicine in Cecil county, Maryland, and practised since the year 1774 in Charleston, South Carolina. In the years 1782, 83, 85, and 86, he represented Charleston in the legislature of South Carolina twenty-one successive years, and for the last seven years he presided as president of the same. His writings are well known, particularly his history of the American Revolution. [P. 39.]
