Whose gallant conduct in the action and capture of the Monk in Delaware Bay, a British sloop of war of superior force, sent from New York, for the purpose of taking the Hyder Ally, which he commanded, will be admired by every American, and for which Congress presented him with an elegant sword. His detestation of royalty and love of liberty, led him for a while into the service of the French Republic. [P. 27.]
