Was the engineer who directed the fortifications, at Charleston South Carolina. Was annexed to the corps of engineers commanded by du Portail, with the rank and pay of lieutenant colonel, 1778; congress resolved "that they entertained an high opinion of his merit and military talents, and of his zeal and activity in the service of the United States." [P. 23.]
