Attacked the British forces at Stono-ferry, in South Carolina, 1779, repulsed in a joint attack with Count D'Estaing, against the British in Savanah, in the same year. Capitulated with Sir Henry Clinton at Charleston, 1780. Received the submission of the royal army at Yorktown, 1781, marched from Boston, at the head of the state militia, against the insurgents, 1787; who dispersed in a few days after, with the loss of a few lives.
