The Genius of Modesty preventing Love unvailing Beauty, (painting)
Canniani, F. B.
Appears in exhibition catalog as entry no. 80
"We take the liberty to recommend the removal of this picture from the gallery, for two reasons: 1st, for having a tendency to offend the virtuous eyes of those chaste females who visit this fashionable lounge; and secondly, as it gives room for an indec- ent remark from the merry and impertinant wags, who seize every opportunity, in the presence of fair ones, to display their wit by some heureuse pensee."
