"We take the liberty to recommend the removal of this picture from the gallery, for two reasons: 1st, for having a tendency to offend the virtuous eyes of those chaste females who visit this fashionable lounge; and secondly, as it gives room for an indec- ent remark from the merry and impertinant wags, who seize every opportunity, in the presence of fair ones, to display their wit by some heureuse pensee." [P. 303.]
