"A study, by Romney. This figure of a lady - she is represented with her head reclining, and supported by her right hand. Her beautiful countenance bears the most emphatic expression of a soul sunk in the most profound thought, and rendered by its deep sorrow insensible and inattentive to all external objects and impressions." [P. 295; Gottesman adds in footnote:] "George Romney (1734-1802), English. The Lady in the 'Study' was prob- ably his favorite model, Lady Hamilton." [P. 295.]
