"Whether this a faithful likeness of the original it would be difficult to ascertain: it is however, painted by himself, and finished in a manner which is no disgrace to his pencil." [P. 292; Gottesman adds in a footnote:) "Adriaen Hanneman (1601-1669), Dutch portrait painter. A photograph of a self- portrait is in the Frick Art Reference Library. The original was bought in London (1894) for the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. It was listed as in Daniel Bowen's exhibition of paintings in New York City in the Columbian Gazetteer, June 9, 1794."[P. 292]
