"Greuze, (Jean Baptiste,) was born in Burgundy in 1726. One of the most distinguished painters of the French school. He displayed pre-eminent talent in domestic, moral, and affecting subjects." No. 41.--The Birthday Present--a lady seated bestowing presents to a daughter and son. The colouring is very lovely and tender, and the precision of the drawing in all the forms and the careful execution mark it as a very excellent specimen of the master. [Pp. 10-11.]
