Bierstadt"s "Silver Lake, California," a lake named by Rev. T. S. King. A letter was read from Mr. Bierstadt stating that it was twelve by twenty, the size of the picture he contributed to the New York Fair, which sold for $1,600, and that he had used his utmost efforts to make it perfect. This picture was started at $600. It was stated that they could not dispose of the picture by raffle because the artist prohibited it, or $2,000 could have been received for it. It was finally purchased by Mr. Royal E. Robbins, for $975. [Newspaper Article.]
