"Both of these paintings possess much merit. No. 100 is a rich summer landscape, in perfect repose. The deep green, the luxuriant foliage, and the still water in the foreground, where the two cranes are taking fish, compose a winning scene. No. 101 is in fine contrast. The winds of autumn are up, the clouds scud across the heavens, the trees and grasses bend before the blast. The whole is a happy portraiture, and a valuable work of art."
