Here is another of the characteristic delineations of this great humorist-painter. A German custom is for the Police to enter all drinking houses at twelve o'clock at night and order them closed. The moment evidently has arrived, for the officer has entered the door. The toper-like faces are, apparently, a little redder than usual, from the night's debauch. [P. 18.]
