The artist has composed this picture after the description of eye-witnesses and has been careful to make his drawing as true as possible to nature. For this purpose he remained sometime in Havre in order to get all the particulars of this dreadful event from the captains and crew of those vessels, who distinguished themselves in rescuing the unfortunate passengers of the Austria. [P. 22; name of buyer noted by a contemporary hand.]
