[There were] three paintings which obtained the gold medal of honor at the International Exhibition at Paris in 1855 [including] Primitive Life in America, an Indian fishing scene by moonlight, which was purchased by Mr. Durning for the sum of $260. [Newspaper Article.]
Sale of the Rossiter Paintings. The Public Sale of the Collection of Paintings from the Pencil of this Most Gifted Artist, took place last evening in the rooms of the National Academy of Design, in Tenth Street.
