Cranch, Christopher Pease.--Born in Alexandria, Va., in 1813. After leaving College he studied theology three years at Cambridge, Mass., was licensed to preach, but left the ministry in 1872. Landscape painter. Has lived a great deal in Europe, and most of his pictures represent Swiss and Italian scenery. A very pleasing painter, with a great deal of technical skill, and a true lover of nature. [Appendix; exhibited heading: "Water Colors, Crayon Drawings, &c."]
