"Formerly in the collection of Rich'd Meade, Esq., Minister to Spain, for whom it was painted and sold together with his fine collection some fifteen years ago in the same building where it now is. It afterwards adorned the colleciton of John Wolfe, Esq., of New York, at whose sale it was purchased by the present owner. It is among the most highly finished of Stuart's portraits." [P. 16.]
