Purchased by Mr. Beaumont, for his collection in 1834, and has been in his possession ever since that time. It is the only portrait taken from life by Stuart of this celebrated Lady, and has long enjoyed an enviable reputation among artists for its unrivaled purity of color and delicacy of penciling.
