Exhibition Catalogs
Date:
1876
Notes:
Appears in exhibition catalog as entry no. 54
Sunday with the Italian peasantry is really a day of relaxation. They attend mass in the morning, and spend the rest of the day in quiet repose and innocent amusements. The Parish priest walks composedly among them, and the children eagerly run out to kiss his hand and obtain a Benediction. This picture truly represents the Italian peasantry, in character and costume. Painted by a Swiss artist in Rome. [P. 48.]
