Notes:
Appears in exhibition catalog as entry no. 17 (Sale info: For Sale).
This Artist is an Oriental Prince. 17.--A Squall. This painting is one of those remarkable fancy pieces, which the genius can only paint from recollection, having no chance of observing such a scene long. The tempest is raging and below yonder high shore an American ship is wrecked whilst farther off another one is trying to escape the imminent peril. The fury of the hurricane, the power with which the high rolling waves are thrown on the breakers, the rage of the elements, and the gloom of the spectacle are very lively and strikingly represented.
