Description:
This woven reed basket won the First Place Blue Premium Ribbon at the Calvert County Fair. The lid incorporates a carved wood openwork floral design. The combination of techniques and materials is a hallmark of Ira Blount’s work. A self-taught, Washington, D.C.-based artist, he has used media ranging from basketry and woodwork, to beadwork, calligraphy, origami and needlework. Many of his creations are influenced by African and Appalachian traditions.
