Description:
This coverlet was hand-woven by African-American slaves around 1850. The slaves worked on Lauretta Plantation, near Fayette, Mississippi. The red and rare green colors may have been made from a natural home dye, using white ash, meadow garlic, or the leaves of an onion tree.
