Description:
Textile arts are a rich part of Maroon material culture. Once viewed by the outside world as "naked savages," the Maroons actually have a history of creating their own decorative fashions. To be worn while drumming, this kamisa (loincloth) reflects their mastery of appliqué, patchwork, and stitching.
