Straw Bag

view Straw Bag digital asset number 1
A straw bag such as this represents not only supreme pragmatic functionality but also a highly skilled and unique representation of a native art form. Cultures the world over need and use bags such as this for practical and decorative reasons. Dr. Turner studied and spent time amongst several cultures that featured a skilled weaving tradition: in Africa, in South America, and in the American South. The style and design of this bag could originate from any of those cultures, as they were linked in their histories. Depending on its cultural origination, the bag would be constructed from indigenous plant fibers available to local craftspeople.
