Blue and Gold Sash

view Blue and Gold Sash digital asset number 1
These sashes and scarf originate from Brazil, as evidenced by the stamping "Fabricated in Brazil" (in Portuguese) along the selvedge edge of the fabric of one of the items. The sashes would have been worn around the waist of the wearer, and could likely have been part of a traditional folkloric costume of Bahia. Use of the square scarf cannot be precisely determined in terms of where or how it would have been worn or used.
Dr. Turner likely acquired these items during the early 1940s when he was in Bahia, Brazil.
