Cloth and embroidered silk.
National Origin:
American

Quilt
Description:
Crazy patchwork quilt.
African American quilts and quitlmakers often are viewed in a similiar manner. It is imperative, however, that African Americans be treated as a disparate group when examininations are conducted on the historical roles of blacks in creative endeavors, such as quiltmaking. African American quiltmakers backgrounds, living conditions, needs, access to materials, aesthetic sensibilities, creative impulses and technical skills, causalities that determined the kinds of quilts they produced, were vastly divergent. Thus it is a simplistic notion that the legions of black quiltmakers produced works displaying a single aesthetic orientation.
