Airplane Machine Shop Company

Payne, Leslie J. (American sculptor, 1907-1981)
metal and wood
installations (art)
The Airplane Machine Shop Co. is a metal shed-type structure in which Leslie Payne would create his many aeronautical artworks or "imitations". The machine shop holds chains, wheels, scraps of metal and whirligigs that would be used to make biplanes and aircraft towers that were displayed on Payne's farm. The machine shop stood on the farm after Payne took ill and went to a nursing home, abandonned to the elements for nearly a decade before it was acquired and restored.
