Hugo Gellert is in the center, standing with one leg propped up, next to the man smoking a pipe. This is thought to be a photograph of the staff of the New York World (newspaper). Man standing at the far right is Walter Lippmann, a staff writer at the World, where Gellert was a staff artist.
