Identification on verso (handwritten): This is a picture of Fred J. Behre the artist who was born in northern California about 1866 and died in Los Angeles in 1941 He was my Grandfather [signed] Robert S. Behre July 27, 1959.
Donated 1993 by Norman Neuerberg, an art historian and artist who received it from Elisabeth Waldo, widow of Carl Dentzel, former director of Southwest Museum in Highland Park, California. Waldo gave the photo to Neuerberg as thanks for his arrangements in the sale of Dentzel's photograph collection. Neuerberg believes Behre was married to a sister of his great-grandmother.
