West writes to introduce a friend to Rawle, a miniature painter named Mr. Robinson, and hopes that Rawle will extend hospitality to Robinson while he is in Philadelphia. West also indicates that he has received Rawle's correspondence about some legal matters regarding land owned by West in Pennsylvania.
