Identification at bottom: "He was about five feet, eight inches tall, sturdy, on of the most graceful specimens of humanity on ever encountered. He was of a fine, healthy bronze, well proportioned, while in every gesture he was graceful." Mayne Reid, 1851.
Identification on verso (handwritten): Portrait of George Catlin; age 49 (1845)
made by W. J. Linton, London England, possibly appearing in Illust. London New, for whom Linton worked.
